Kenny Burrell Transcription: C-Jam Blues
A while back I did a number of Kenny Burrell transcriptions. Here’s one from Ellington is Forever Vol. I (work that ‘stache Kenny!). This is from Kenny’s first solo break, which comes in at about 4:15. Here’s the MIDI version, so you can hear what it sounds like: C-Jam Blues. The transcription follows the break.
Phew! There are parts of this that are more interpretive given that Kenny was really relaxing his technique (I mean that in a good way), but I think the transcription is basically sound.

Great tab! Thanks for posting. I enjoyed playing along with this tab, some really nice chromatic lines that Kenny plays here. Question for you sir please: what voicing do you use for the A7(alt) chord if you’re playing rhythm guitar? Not sure what notes I should be playing; chord I’m playing right now doesn’t sound right…Thanks!
Hmm. Can’t remember! It’s been a few years since I did this transcription. I’ll see if I can dig up the chord progression to check on that A7 alt.
Hi,
I’m very interested in getting Kenny Burrell tabs. Unfortunately, I can’t see the ones clearly that you posted. They are very blurry on my computer screen and I can’t seem to print them in a readable form either ( tried boosting the view to 200% and even blurrier (is that a word?). Any suggestions ?
Do you have a transcript of Kenny’s “If I had You”. Would love to learn that one.
Thanks,
Stan
Huh… Not sure what the problem is. They’re just jpg files. You might want to try a different computer just to check.
