Parker Fly Mojo MIDI
Parker has announced a MIDI-enabled version of their Fly Mojo, pictured to the left. The thin pickup behind the bridge humbucker is a GK-KIT-GT3 Divided Pickup, which interfaces with the Roland V-Guitar System and GR-20 Guitar Synthesizer
(also some BOSS pedals).
I used to own a Roland GR-30 (see bottom), and it was great fun. I even drilled holes in my Franken-SG for the installation. I found it worked best for laying backing synth tracks. My attempts at synth solos a la Allan Holdsworth and his SynthAxe were often frustrating due to tracking problems (click the play button below to hear Narnia, a tune I wrote and recorded with the GR-30 for all synth tracks). In all fairness, it could have been the guitar or my installation. After all, my Franken-SG had seen better days. If you have the means, guitar synths are a lot of fun and very useful, especially if, like me, your keyboarding skills are, ahem, minimal at best.
