Throw Down Your Heart: Tales from the Acoustic Planet Volume 3 – Africa Sessions
Phew. That’s a mouthful. Bela Fleck’s latest is coming out tomorrow. Four years ago, Bela Fleck traveled to Africa with a film crew and a recording engineer to capture the sounds of Africa as well as to collaborate. I listened to all the previews on Amazon and liked the second-to-last track best, Djorolen. The NY Times had a blurb about this CD in the music section yesterday.
For those of you who have perhaps heard Bela Fleck’s name but don’t much other than that, he’s a virtuoso banjo player who combines all manner of music influences and styles into some very cool music. I swear, there’s nothing quite like jazz banjo. He plays with his band, the Flecktones (my favorite stuff) and as a solo artist. Here’s a vid of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones playing Next:
Love that killer tapping by bassist Victor Wooten.
