In case you’re counting, this is Guitarbalooga’s 500th post!
Guitarbalooga experienced some technical difficulties last night that brought the site down. It’s, um, back now. Duh.

I’m proud to announce that Guitarbalooga has been picked as an Editor’s Choice blog by blogville.us. I’m told that less than 1% of their blogs acheive this distinction. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go bask in my glory.
To all you Guitarbalooga muthas out there, happy Mother’s Day!
I’m proud to announce that Akismet, the software I use to deflect spam comments, has detected over 1,000 spam comment attempts! Not surprisingly, the number of spam comments detected increased by an order of magnitude since April 1. Why isn’t that surprising? Because I can’t believe this is a coincidence:
In an event that hits the [...]
Perhaps I’m a little behind-the-times, but I just discovered the website ReverbNation.com, which allows you to post music and easily share it on, oh, I don’t know, say a BLOG. I’ve posted a bunch of my tunes there, which are now accesible from the Guitarbalooga About Page, for anyone who is interested.
Guitarbalooga’s tag-line used to be: helping you waste time at work since 2008. Good thing I changed it, because an Australian study disproved it:
Caught Twittering or on Facebook at work? It’ll make you a better employee, according to an Australian study that shows surfing the Internet for fun during office hours increases productivity.
The University of Melbourne study showed that [...]
I noticed that the site was sluggish, so I trimmed up and optimized the sharing links (now using addthis.com). Things are humming along now.
In an effort to try to drive more traffic to Guitarbalooga, I’ve added a new feature to the every post. When you click on the “Sphere” link (to the bottom right under each post) next to “Related Content,” a window pops up that is supposed to give you related content from other blogs and news [...]
I’ve added a new feature to Guitarbalooga: the ability for readers to submit links to sites they think deserve a mention. Just click on the “submit a link” tab at the top of the blog and fill in the form (no registration or email is required).
I’m happy to report that the transition went as smoothly as could be expected.
I’m going to be moving the blog to guitarbalooga.com over the course of the next few hours, so please hang in there until the switch is done!
Update: Jan. 4, 2009
The guitarbalooga.com domain is taking longer than planned to make it into the DNS table, so the switchover is postponed.
In addition, I managed to hose the [...]
Now that this blog has reached the ripe old age of 3 months, I’ve decided that it should live on its own, with its own domain. So, at some point in the very near future (depending on how the hairy transition goes), Fretz will become “Guitarbalooga.” Ahem. No. I’m not kidding. Here’s the new logo:
It’s [...]
One of the reasons I started this blog was to encourage myself to post more free lessons and transcriptions. And, as you can see, I haven’t done that.
I will be in the near future. So, if you have any ideas (I’ve got plenty, but it’s always nice to hear from other people), leave a comment!
