Transcription: Kenny Burrell’s Bluescape

I’ve always loved the that first solo in Bluescape. For me, it’s one of those solos that seems too exquisitely crafted to have been improvised. Well, that might be true if we were talking about anyone but Kenny Burrell playing a blues. Kenny’s just got those mad bluez skillz.

So, here’s the transcription, this time in JPG format. I also made a MIDI file of the solo as usual. Have fun!

Transcription: Fleetwood Mac Landslide

Many of the transcriptions I’ve seen of Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide are incorrect (at least to my ears). The last one I saw, for example, used a picking pattern that was close but not quite right. So, here’s my contribution.

Landslide is a pretty simple tune with just a few parts. If you’ve got strong hands, you can actually play it without a capo by barring the 3rd fret, but if you’re like the rest of us mortals who get tired, crampy hands, get yourself a capo.

Anyway, I’ve tried as best I can to describe how the tune is constructed in just one page of music.

Got another Kenny Burrell transcription for you (my best cut at it anyway). This is Kenny’s first solo break, which happens around 2:05 on the original track from the Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane CD/Album.

This a MIDI cut of what it sounds like.

A while back I did a number of Kenny Burrell transcriptions. Here’s one from Ellington is Forever Vol. I (work that ‘stache Kenny!). This is from Kenny’s first solo break, which comes in at about 4:15. Here’s the MIDI version, so you can hear what it sounds like: C-Jam Blues. The transcription follows the break.

Phew! There are parts of this that are more interpretive given that Kenny was really relaxing his technique (I mean that in a good way), but I think the transcription is basically sound.
